SOMERSHAM PARISH COUNCIL

Vacancies for Parish Councillors

(to be co-opted)

Somersham Parish Council is a local authority that makes decisions on behalf of the people who live in the parish.  It is the level of local government closest to the community, with Mid-Suffolk District Council and Suffolk County Council above it in the hierarchy.

On their own, Parish Councils have limited powers to make decisions, but they do have the ability to negotiatewith, and the power to influence other organisations that do make the final decisions.  Probably the most common topics that Parish Councils get involved with are planning matters (we are statutory consultees), crime prevention, roads and highways.

Somersham Parish Council currently has 5 Councillors with 2 vacancies and are now seeking expressions of interest from people who are over 18 years of age who live or work in Somersham.

If you would like to find out more about the role of a Parish Councillor, please speak to myself or any of the 5 current Parish Councillors – contact details can be found on the Parish Council pages on the Somersham, Suffolk website or on the noticeboards.

If you would like to be considered for co-option to the Parish Council, please send your expression of interest setting out why you wish to become a Parish Councillor and what you would bring to the role by email, to me at clerk@somershamsuffolk-pc.gov.uk

Why not play a part?

Mrs Jennie Blackburn
